Saturday is for Seminars: American Association of Christian Counselors

A week from now is the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) 2015 World Conference "Be Strong." From September 23rd-26th here in Nashville, TN, over six thousand attendees and others will swarm The Opryland Hotel to learn about how we can best counsel people who are hurting and love them as Christ would.

Here is a bit about the conference from Tim Clinton, the President of the AACC:

Soon, a sellout crowd of counselors, pastors and coaches from all 50 states and many countries around the world will gather for the highly anticipated AACC 2015 “Be Strong” World Conference.
Julie and I cannot wait to see you there! We are expecting a standing room only crowd of nearly 7,000. You can anticipate enjoying some of the world’s best praise and worship, dynamic plenary addresses, and more than 220 cutting-edge workshops.
Our mission is to help you more effectively offer the love of God and wise counsel to those who come to you for help, hope and direction.
Our theme verse is Ephesians 6:10, “… be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.”
Thousands have locked in their 2015 “Be Strong” World Conference registrations. As a valued AACC colleague, I want to encourage you to register for the conference and make your Opryland Hotel reservations NOW. The Opryland direct line for reservations is 888.777.6779.

I'm thankful for Tim and his leadership of this important organization. People are hurting and the church is tasked with counseling so that people might be healed and God might be glorified.

Here is a bit of what I'm up to at the conference:

Thursday, September 24th

On Thursday at the conference, I am taking the time to meet with a number of people and interview them for my weekly TV show, The Exchange.

Also on Thursday, I am attending President's Luncheon 1pm w/ Dr. Tim Clinton & AACC Executive Board. The special speaker is Dr. James Dobson. I'm looking forward to some time with Dr. Dobson.

Later on Thursday night, I am privileged to be attending ConnectU, where I'll get to connect with a number of students and young professionals.

Saturday, September 26th

Saturday morning, I speak first thing during the Saturday morning plenary session. The title is "Perfect in Weakness," and we'll be coming out of 2 Corinthians 12:9, which says, "…My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

Many individuals who suffer from mental health issues are within our churches and seeking God’s grace in their lives. Consider seeing these individuals as perfectly positioned to display God’s power through their weakness. In this talk, I will share the current research and statistics on the church and mental health. I will also discuss how to formulate a biblical response to the church and mental health.

Also on Saturday morning, the AACC will present me with The Gary R. Collins Award for Excellence in Research and Scholarship in Christian Counseling. I'm humbled by the recognition and thankful for the LifeWay Research team. This award belongs to them as well.
