The Day I Made the Bully Cry
He just stared at me, like he couldn't believe what I'd just said. He muttered, "Whatever," then turned away and stared out the window. For the next five minutes he was silent—until we got to my stop. As I brushed past him to exit the bus, he murmured, "Me, too." I'll admit, it wasn't much of an apology, but it was something coming from Daniel.
God's love and compassion covers a lot of sins, and I hope in some small way I showed that love to Daniel. I figure with time—and maybe some more opportunities to see God's love at work—Daniel might come to use his mouth to spread joy rather than pain. As for me, I learned a big lesson that day. It's never easy to love like Jesus would. But when I do, I know it's the kind of love that really can have an impact on others.
