Christian radio personality Frank Pastore died yesterday of complications from a November motorcycle accident that left him in a four-week coma. He was 55 years old.
Pastore, a former Major League Baseball pitcher for the Cinncinnati Reds, suffered head trauma when he was hit by a car while riding his motorcycle on a Los Angeles freeway. According to KKLA, the Christian radio station where Pastore worked, he died early Monday afternoon.
CT profiled Pastore in 2007, noting his tendency to toss around "sound bites like fastballs." Last year, Pastore won a National Religious Broadcasters award for his long-form radio program.
However, Pastore now may be best known and remembered for the way in which he appeared to predict his own death. Three hours before the motorcycle accident that left him comatose, Pastore told listeners:
Look you guys know I ride a motorcycle don't you? So, at any moment, especially with the idiot people who cross the diamond lane into my lane, alright, without any blinkers, not that I'm angry about it, but at any minute I could be spread out all over the 210 but that's not me, that's my body parts. That key distinction undergirds the entire Judeo-Christian worldview and also your pursuit of reality.
Pastore's wife Gina told Inland Valley Daily Bulletin that her husband "was all about the Gospel."
"I just pray God will continue to use his legacy," she said.
