Rehearsals are held on Thursday\nafternoons, with tutoring by our church-music director and another qualified\nteacher from our church. The band performs every Sunday night during the\nschool term and on special holidays.<\/p>\n\n<p>\nThrough the band, the church has added new members, gained a stronger music\nprogram, and provided support for home-schooling parents.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"is-style-article-bio\">&mdash;Douglas Rose \nFirst Assembly\nBelleville, Illinois<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-article-subhead1\">Car Repair Ministry<\/h2><p>\n<strong>F<\/strong>or some single women, particularly single moms,\ncar problems can be nearly debilitating. To meet this need, our church started\nARM&mdash;Automobile Repair Ministry&mdash;for single women from our\nchurch and community.<\/p>\n\n<p>\nThe church constructed a three-bay garage eqipped to do evaluation and minor\nrepair work. With volunteer labor, discounted parts, and donated equipment,\narm gives oil and filter changes and other minor repair work for the cost\nof parts. One woman&#8217;s car broke down a half hour&#8217;s drive from her house.\nShe called the church office, and someone towed her car to the garage, where\nit was fixed.<\/p>\n\n<p>\narm operates the first Saturday morning of each month. Generally, people\nset up an appointment, but we take walk-ins.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"is-style-article-bio\">&mdash;Layne Lebo\nMechanicsburg BIC Church\nMechanicsburg, Pennsylvania<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-article-subhead1\">Caroling in Bars<\/h2><p>\n<strong>A<\/strong>s an outreach, our church goes caroling in\nlocal bars after our Christmas Eve service.<\/p>\n\n<p>\nThe previous week I call bars in our area to find out which ones will be\nopen. Volunteers meet after the service for prayer and a brief training session.\nWe then carpool to the bar. I go in and ask the owner if we can carol there.\nIf he agrees, we announce to the customers our intentions and hand out song\nsheets. We sing only four or five familiar carols and only a verse or two\nof each. We then close with &#8220;We Wish You a Merry Christmas.&#8221; Many patrons\nenjoy singing the carols with us. Some have tears in their eyes.<\/p>\n\n<p>\nAfter the singing I thank the patrons for the opportunity to share God&#8217;s\nlove. The carolers then move throughout the bar and give gifts (New Testaments),\ntalking with patrons, and offering to pray with them. We also give Christmas\ncards that say, &#8220;We want you to know that Jesus loves you. From the members\nof Resurrection Lutheran Church,&#8221; followed by the church&#8217;s address and phone\nnumber.<\/p>\n\n<p>\nOne lady had lost all her possessions in a fire. We prayed for her and encouraged\nher to call us if she had any needs.<\/p>\n\n<p>\nOne owner stopped me and said, &#8220;I wish you could sing some more. &hellip; [These\npeople] are only here because they&#8217;re lonely. They have no place to go. This\nis the most wonderful evening we&#8217;ve had. Please come back.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"is-style-article-bio\">&mdash;David Dorpat\nResurrection Lutheran Church\nDesMoines, Washington<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-article-subhead1\">Talent Multiply-ers<\/h2><p>\n<strong>A<\/strong>fter a sermon on the Parable of the Talents,\nCalvary Baptist Church gave each interested member $10 to invest in a special\nsix-week project. The profits would go toward a ministry.<\/p>\n\n<p>\nSome people used the money to buy ingredients to bake goods to sell. One\nperson made a tape of musicians from the church, duplicated it, and sold\neach for $5. (Be sure to check copyright laws.) One small group pooled their\nresources and put together a cookbook.<\/p>\n\n<p>\nSix weeks later we collected the profits.
