Here&rsquo;s how he summarizes one of his troubling statistics:<\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>One [statistic] stopped me in my tracks was from a 2018 survey conducted by Pew. The sample size was small, and made use of a word-association methodology, so I haven&rsquo;t cited it in most of my work. But I still wonder about it. Every single respondent thought that &ldquo;masculine&rdquo; was a negative term when applied to women. That&rsquo;s not surprising.<\/p>\n<p>What was shocking was that most people&mdash;four out of five&mdash;thought the term &ldquo;masculine&rdquo; was negative when applied to men. (The term &ldquo;feminine&rdquo; was not mentioned often enough to make it into the analysis.)
