When Matt and Taylor Walker learned during pregnancy that their son Copeland had Trisomy 18, they were told his life would likely be very short. Copeland lived for just 55 minutes after his birth on December 22, 2019. Years later, Matt says, \u201cWe still look back at those 55 minutes joyfully, and we also look back at that 55 minutes as a sorrowful experience.\u201d What he never says is regret. He has never once wished they had chosen differently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Taylor remembers how isolating the diagnosis felt. \u201cThere was no one in our community or church who had experience with this,\u201d she said. Late one night, she typed \u201cTrisomy 18\u201d into Instagram. That search led her to a Christian pro-life support ministry that understood exactly what she was facing.
Through that community, the Walkers found people who didn\u2019t offer easy answers. They offered prayer, counseling, and practical guidance\u2014how to prepare for Copeland\u2019s birth, how to honor his life, and how to grieve faithfully. When Copeland died, they were encouraged to hold him, to name him, and to remember him as their son.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe had a choice,\u201d Taylor said, \u201cand we chose to honor Copeland\u2019s life and to honor God through that.\u201d Faith didn\u2019t remove their pain, but it shaped how they carried it. Taylor says, \u201cI feel safe to share my grief and ask for prayers when I\u2019m struggling.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today, the Walkers still hang Copeland\u2019s stocking every Christmas. They also walk with other families facing similar diagnoses.These pro-life ministries don\u2019t promise easy endings. They promise presence. They say, You are not alone. Your child matters.
