Rocket Science Theme of the Week: Fantasy Foothold Aaron Johnson Monday, October 2, 2006

Key Bible Verse: Who can say, "I have cleansed my heart; I am pure and free from sin?" (Proverbs 20:9). Bonus Reading: 2 Timothy 2:21-22
As a boy, I toured NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Our student group pondered the sheer size of the rockets and engines and imagined ourselves astronauts.
A tour highlight was the neutral buoyancy simulator, a massive tank where astronauts trained to sense near zero gravity. The tank had just been sterilized, our guide explained, and filled with uncontaminated water for a special experiment. Just as we considered what a massive undertaking it must be to purify a 1.3-million-gallon tank, we witnessed all that effort undone by the unlikeliest of sources: a shiny copper penny, accidentally dropped in the tank, floating 40 feet down to the bottom.
It takes but a small contaminant to poison a large host. Many may view an occasional glance at pornography as a small contaminant. Consider, though, how giving in to the passing temptation infects the whole man. Not only are the images burned on the mind, a physical consequence, but the creature has brazenly placed his perceived needs over God's lordship, a spiritual consequence.
We must diligently avoid pornography like the poison it is, focusing instead on the Holy Spirit's limitless power in our hearts.

I admit, Lord, that my heart can't be pure if my mind is morally smeared. Help me crowd out the junk with what is "true and honorable and right."
