Weekend Bible Study
Theme of the week: Answering the Toughest Questions
Saturday, February 11, 2012

There are many "obstacles" that prevent people from coming to faith in Christ: intellectual, emotional, and spiritual. At times, what people say prevent their belief aren't even the root issues. It is our job to address our friends and neighbors' doubts and questions with equal parts truth and grace.

Key Study Passage:

2 Corinthians 10:3-6

  1. Paul says our weapons are not physical, but spiritual (vv. 3-4). What does this mean and how does it inform the way we defend the truth? (See also Eph. 6:11-12.)
  2. Think of a time when a non-Christian asked you a question you couldn't answer. How might you respond now?
  3. Get together with some Christian friends and brainstorm questions a non-Christian might ask. Think about potential answers and Scripture verses to back them up.
  4. What are some non-intellectual obstacles (hurt by the church, not wanting to give up a pet sin, etc.) you might encounter? How would you handle these types of issues with truth and grace?
  5. Consider meeting with a few Christian friends to study The Questions Christians Hope No One Will Ask.

Spend Time in Prayer: Ask God to give you boldness when you are asked difficult questions about the faith; pray that he will prepare answers for you and give your listeners soft hearts to believe the truth.

2 Corinthians 10:3-6

3 We are human, but we don't wage war as humans do. 4 We use God's mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. 5 We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ. 6 And after you have become fully obedient, we will punish everyone who remains disobedient.
