We should hold in any words that are negative, [and] release words that are positive. I try to live by the rule, "If you think something good, say it." Every time you think something positive, give it life with your words. The moment you think something good, bless someone you love with your positive words. Never rob someone of the blessings of an unspoken treasure.
Build one another with your words. You can never offer too much encouragement. I tell Mandy, my second daughter, that I'm crazy about her. Over and over again I express my love for her. Finally one day, Mandy said, "Dad, you're always telling me how crazy you are about me. Every day it's the same thing." Fearing I might've been too repetitive, I asked her, "So do you want me to stop?" She darted back passionately, "No way, Daddy. I love it when you tell me."
If you show me a struggling relationship, I'll show you one filled with toxic words. If you show me any marriage that is limping along, I'll show you a marriage filled with word darts flying recklessly through the air. Your words matter. They are either giving life or taking life. Choose to give life.
