The Heart of a Warrior
Theme of the Week: Born to Be a Warrior

Key Bible Verse: Fight a good fight for the faith and claim eternal life. (1 Timothy 6:12, CEV)

Dig Deeper: 1 Timothy 6:11-16, 20-21

Forgive me for stating the obvious, but men are not women. (For the record, women don't make good men either.) After all, God created us differently. "So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them" (Gen. 1:27, NLT). Both men and women reflect the image of God, but in distinct ways.

God created men to have the heart of a warrior. That doesn't mean that men should be aggressive, alpha-bully punks. (Nor does it mean that women can't fight for what's right as well.) It simply means that within every man, God has planted a divine desire to fight for righteousness.

Remember Gladiator? Russell Crowe, in his cool Roman general uniform, spurs his horse forward through the forest, calling, "Brothers, what we do in life echoes in eternity!"

For men, there's a part of us that thinks, I wish I could have been there. I would have fought. Men are supposed to respond that way. A man with nothing to fight for quickly becomes a frustrated man. Fighting for what's right stirs something inside a man. It makes him want to be not just a man but the man. The best man he can be.

My Response: Do I agree that every man has the heart of a warrior? Why or why not?

Yes, I think we all have the heart of a warrior. I just think sometimes my warrior heart is not in the right place. This is very near to me because I messed up a long term relationship of mine recently, and now I've been fighting very hard to right the ship. I needed the encouragement. Thanks so much.

Absolutely agree. The issue though is where is the focus or foundation of that warrior spirit? Are we Godly and manly leaders of our homes, churches, and communities. Society has so reduced the role of the man. We need to step up and resume that role and our duties as Godly men.

Yes, i agree with this statement. However, as a warrior i sometimes my passionate spirit is misdirected and misapplied in my own life. This is true; when often i allow my warrior to fight battles which are better left alone--- over silly issues, such as baseball, football, and the like. As a warrior in life, i should be focused on the spiritual battles i'm daily involved in---such as keeping my family together and in harmony, my daily devotional life, to just name a few. My prayers this day is that God would use the warrior within me to be victorious in these areas today. In Jesus name , Amen.

I have been frustrated…not fighting! My fight, right now, is the for the righteousness and purity of my children and family. This speaks right to my heart and need right now as I was praying right before I read, "God you created me to be a warrior, and I have been drinking up wine rather than being in the battle." I agree, for the moment I confessed my apathetic attitude, a spark was ignited with me...

Completely agree. We all have our inner warrior, we just have the means to express it differently. The same themes though; strength, courage, and resolve!
