Who Said It … Craig Groeschel

Craig Groeschel is the senior pastor of LifeChurch.tv, a pacesetting multicampus church and creators of the popular and free YouVersion Bible App. He is a frequent conference speaker and also the author of several books, including Altar Ego, Soul Detox, Weird, The Christian Atheist, and Fight. Craig, his wife, Amy, and their six children live in Edmond, Oklahoma.

What he Said … Wanted: Heroes

We love to root for the underdog. We love to see good triumph over evil and courage defeat cowardice. We love to see righteousness prevail and unrighteousness punished. And we love a hero who refuses to give up the fight no matter how impossible the odds.

Right now we're starving for heroes. We're no longer surprised when men we once admired and respected—elected officials, superstar athletes, gifted pastors—tumble in a sex scandal, an embezzlement scheme, or a domestic abuse arrest. We've almost become jaded, half-expecting our leaders and favorite celebrities to be hiding something. Most are, right?

We hope they'll make sacrifices, take risks, and make hard decisions to do the right thing, but we aren't surprised when they don't. We lack real heroes, and Hollywood fills the void with a glut of superheroes—Iron Man and Batman and Thor and Spider-Man and the Avengers and the X-Men. But we still long for someone to show us what an authentic flesh-and-blood hero looks like.

Where have all the good men gone?

the age of tolerance and compromise and the dismissing of straight "right/wrong truth /lie" foundations has given us a world of "its ok if I can get away with it" or feels good/ right for me etc. There are still good men out there , many of whom have not been given a foundation to stand on. Culture penetrates the church and we compromise the word of God.We expect God to serve us but we for get the call to Holiness. The fact that grace empowers if we step out etc. We should expect our leaders to be accountable and we should provide them with the means. The early church was accused of turning the world upside down ,not because they spoke in tongues but because they lived by Gods rules ,empowered by His spirit to resist conformity to culture. raise up our sons, set an example ,walk as a kingdom man.you'll get spat at reviled and persecuted ,you will please God.

i disagree with this question. in my humble opinion, there are still good men out 'there'. They just have to WAKE UP & smell the opportunity to take the leadership role in families. i consider myself to be among this group just beginning to back what we've abdicated to others. i'm certainly not there. But i'm learning how to be more assertive in my faith walk. Lord, empower me this day to spread your Word as best that i'm able to. In Jesus name i pray Amen.
