For the City: Proclaiming and Living Out the Gospel (Zondervan, 2011) By Darrin Patrick & Matt Carter with Joel A. Lindsey

The Facts: A book for those who feel called to be God’s church in the city. It is not a defense of urban ministry or a city-to-suburbs comparison. Rather, Patrick and Carter offer powerful testimonies and pointed advice to help pastors effectively lead churches in an urban context.

The Slant: Beginning with their own unlikely stories as God moved them toward church planting in Saint Louis and Austin, the authors offer windows into the challenges of urban church planting along with sage advice for those going down that ministry road. With biblical wisdom Patrick and Carter prod readers to explore motives, gospel implications, and practical considerations for ministry in some of the toughest contexts. They describe their own failures as warnings for others. Most important, the authors show God’s heart for the city and demonstrate how his church can sow gospel seeds in cities around the world.
