Style: Acoustic worship; compare to Matt Maher, Selah, Paul Baloche
Top tracks: "Who Are You," "Earnestly (We Want to Know)," "Nearer"
Popular Maranatha worship leader Walker translates passages from A.W. Tozer's timeless devotional into scriptural-minded worship songs. Using mainly acoustic instrumentation, including a full orchestra, Pursuit is mostly reflective. But the percussive strings of Spanish-influenced "Take Your Place," retro-blues of "Nearer," corporate sing-along of "Earnestly," and funk-oriented backbone of "All About Your Glory" provide proof that Walker's thoughtful musical perspectives include more than just meditation. Though intentionally simple, under-production is the only squawk in an otherwise well-orchestrated praise project. The deluxe edition includes book-based spoken word tracks and free digital lead sheets.
