Top Christian Musician, Athlete Team Up To Increase Special-Needs Adoptions

High-profile partnership between two evangelical celebrities hopes more money will prompt more adoptions.

Christianity Today April 4, 2013

Two Christian music and football giants are partnering off their respective fields–and the result is good news for special-needs children.

Christian music artist Steven Curtis Chapman’s orphan-care ministry Show Hope has announced that it will partner with the Tim Tebow Foundation (TTF) to assist families who desire to adopt special-needs children. The initial grants provided by TTF will sponsor 10 to 14 families this year, awarding an “average amount of $7,000 to $10,000 to each family.”

Show Hope, which already assists nearly 1,000 families each year, reports that it has turned away 8,000 grant requests due to lack of funding since 2003.

CT routinely reports on the topics of adoption and disability, and previously has reported on both Tim Tebow and Steven Curtis Chapman. In 2009, CT covered the Chapman family’s quest to make overseas adoption more affordable after their own experience adopting three daughters from China. CT also interviewed Mary Beth Chapman in 2008, following the tragic death of one of her adopted daughters. CT also has interviewed Tebow about his Christian faith.
