Sounds like: Sunday morning worship; compare to Casting Crowns, Hillsong United, Chris Tomlin
Top tracks: "The Bones," "Our God Is Here," "Tell Your Heart to Beat Again"
The long-running trio of Phillips, Craig & Dean have come along way since their 1991 debut. Their sedate, plaintive sound evolved along the way to include the insistent pull of mid-tempo rock. Their latest album aims to bridge the two sides of their musical worlds, reining in the group's more fist-pumping ways while adding some spice to their quieter ballads. Beyond that, Breathe In is just 10 variations on that same theme. The intensity may rise and fall at times, but otherwise these songs of praise can only be differentiated through subtle shifts in instrumentation and melody.
