When Steph Macleod sings, "I was broken and couldn't stand on my own two feet" and "I was down and out and living on the streets," he really means it. The 29-year-old from Edinburgh, Scotland, was a homeless alcoholic till he found (in order) God, rehab, sobriety, and songwriting. He had been a classical guitar student at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music before booze got the best (and worst) of him. But now four years sober, he's put together a collection of a dozen songs—both poignant and plaintive—about where he's been, where he is, and where he's going. Great Scot, it's good stuff.
