Atlanta-based worship leader/songwriter Aaron Keyes is taking his national recording debut seriously, tackling doubt (“Where are You Now”) and faith (“I Am Yours”) while assessing the implications of Christ’s sacrifice (“Not Guilty Anymore”). Co-writing with Stuart Townend to create a historic hymn cadence on “Psalm 62” and utilizing Steve Hindalong’s corporate sensitivity on “Blessing and Honour,” Keyes’ songwriting legacy is already being honed. However, musically Keyes cloaks his queries in typical Brit pop/rock swag and production grants the music little more than standard worship fare. More than praise pop is needed to support his lyrical prowess.
