Style: Indie rock; compare to Mates of State, Danielson, Welcome Wagon

Ben + Vesper are oft compared with another husband/wife indie duo, Mates of State. But while the latter couple rely on sugary synthesizer melodies which would appeal more to teens, Ben + Vesper utilize odd time signatures and dissonant harmonies, crafting music strictly suited for adult ears. Co-produced by Daniel Smith and featuring guest pianist Sufjan Stevens, the song compositions volley between the haziness of Sonic Youth and the quirkiness of Danielson, while the subtle lyrics explore the challenges of raising a family. Though not immediately the most accessible album, Honors is most satisfying after repeat listens.
