The South African-born, raised in England worship singer Brenton Brown has talent enough on his own, but from the sound of the songs here, he stands much taller working in collaboration. Just as when he worked with the UK Vineyard Music team, the tracks that push Brown are those that he shares writing credits on. On “Joyful,” Brown and co-writer Jason Ingram take the soaring “Ode To Joy” melody of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and adapt it into a heart-filling song of praise. And opening track “Our God Is Mercy,” written with Eoghan Heaslip, starts the album off on an energetic and stirring note. Elsewhere, Brown sticks to the well-worn template that has marked much of his work since going solo.
