Style: Folk/Americana; compare to The Avett Brothers, Mumford & Sons, The Decemberists
Top tracks: “Fire and Dynamite,” “Live Forever,” “Miracle,” “Weight of the World”
This five-piece band from East Tennessee is the latest to join the modern folk revival sparked by Mumford & Sons and The Avett Brothers. Holcomb and Co. often sound like honky-tonk rabble rousers, with touches of contemplative acoustics a la Ryan Adams’ early years. The lyrics ponder life’s biggest questions and the harmonies are nothing short of heavenly, with Drew and wife/songwriting partner Ellie (also the daughter of producer Brown Bannister) blending seamlessly.
