Only 21, folk singer/songwriter Laura Marling has produced her third and best album yet, A Creature I Don’t Know. Throughout the project, characters of Sophia and The Beast appear at odds as loose metaphors for wisdom and desire as Marling explores the sometimes indistinguishable difference between wanting and needing, especially in terms of love, warmth, and home. While there is no clear resolution to this basic human struggle, Marling addresses its complexities with an unpredictable but entirely accessible folk rock style and impressive vocal range, from delicate to near-growling.
