Sporting a “Parental Advisory” sticker—thanks to Lil Wayne’s “Just Love” remix and semi-racy lyrics like “She’ll love you up all night, and I’m ready to stay up” (“Love Slayer”), and “Tell me what you want and I’ll give it / Just as long as you know we’re headed back to my place when it’s all over / That’s when I’m sober baby” (“Make You Mine”), the purity-ring toting frontman of the Jonas Brothers loses his formerly chaste platform to purport hooking up and partying hard on his raucous electronic-pop debut. Beats-driven production by Danja (Justin Timberlake), Rob Knox (Britney Spears), and Brian Kennedy (Rihanna) gift Jonas with plenty of pop currency. But Fastlife lacks the soul sophistication of other boy band solo breakouts due to underdeveloped themes and clichéd lyrics. At 22, let’s hope Fastlife—Jonas’ idea of “living life to the fullest“—is a minor growing pain in what has been a mainly positive career.
