Style: Indie folk; compare to Bon Iver, David Bazan, the Avett Brothers
Top tracks: “Life Away From the Garden,” “Museum of Flight,” “Working Titles”
No longer struggling with issues of depression and self-doubt, Jurado sounds confident here, striking religious themes in his lyrics: “We were lighting the world / Then we strayed away from the garden.” Jurado’s songwriting is deeply personal, though, not appropriate for a communal sing-along around the bonfire. His words are not intended to be theological lessons; they are metaphors for his own journey through life. Honest as David Bazan, poignant as Will Oldham, Jurado finally joins that echelon of great indie folk artists with Maraqopa.
