Top tracks: “Anthem of the Lonely,” “Get Back,” “Believe Your Eyes,” “The Intervention”

An Alabama concert promoter sent Nine Lashes’ demo to Thousand Foot Krutch’s Trevor McNevan and the band quickly found itself with a record deal and studio time alongside ace producer Aaron Sprinkle. The results are full of boundless energy and musical maturity, which finds the band switching between melodic alt-rock, rhythmic hard rock, and even screamo (Demon Hunter’s Ryan Clark guests on “Our Darkest Day”). Topically, they’re just as varied, vividly illustrating the crucifixion (the band name comes from the whip used on Jesus) while pushing fans listeners to follow their dreams.
