Having transitioned from a Grammy-winning southern gospel career to straight-up commercial country over the past few years, the powerhouse vocalist takes a sidestep with Hymns. These 13 faith-filled tracks closely identify with his core fanbase, but with the classic twang that gave 2010’s Breathe Deep classic country appeal. Growing up a West Texas preacher’s son, these heritage tunes sound right at home with Guy’s engaging vocal warmth. Add perfectly placed pedal steel, easygoing tempos and an occasional hint at Penrod’s astounding range, and the Grammy winning singer has created an appealing hybrid for country and hymn lovers alike.
