A Leadership Journal review

Fatherless Generation: Redeeming the Story By John Sowers (Zondervan, 2010)

The Facts: This book is a raw account of the current generation of young adults who grew up without fathers. Sowers argues that only God, working through his people, can fill the hole left by absent earthly fathers. Fatherless Generation calls the reader to know God as a father who shows his fatherly love to those who need it.

The Slant: Sowers tells readers his own story about the rejection he felt growing up fatherless. He exposes the deep damage caused to the souls of fatherless men and women, many of whom tell their own stories of emptiness, aimlessness, and depression. For many, this cultural epidemic has skewed their understanding of God. With engrossing stories and practical advice, Sowers urges readers to see God anew as a heavenly father who longs to fill the void left by absent earthly ones.—Barnabas Piper
