Oblivion, the science fiction epic starring Tom Cruise, topped the box office this weekend at $38.2 million. Martin Scorsese is finally filming his adaptation of the book Silence. One of the most important works on faith and the silence of God, the 1966 novel by Japanese author Shusaku Endo follows Portuguese missionaries in 17th century Japan. Will Smith is in this summer’s After Earth, but he’s got some other projects coming, too, including American Can, a movie based on a true story about a Gulf War veteran who saved the lives of over 200 senior citizens during the disaster of Hurricane Katrina.
