The National Black Evangelical Association (NBEA) has postponed its June racial reconciliation convocation with the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) because both groups are reporting money problems.

"One of the things that has concerned us over the last few years is the declining attendance in our conventions," says Ruth Bentley, chair of the Portland, Oregon-based NBEA. However, Aaron Hamlin, executive director of NBEA, says he does not think the group's membership is decreasing. The association has a mailing list of about 4,000 names.

In response to these changes, the NBEA is planning to restructure its organization later this year. Among the association's goals is appealing to a younger constituency as membership ages.

A convocation, scheduled for this month to continue reconciliation between the NBEA and the NAE (CT, Feb. 6, 1995, p. 48), has been postponed indefinitely. "Neither of us has the funding to do that right now," Bentley says.
