Anglican Division

The Anglican Communion's disagreement over orthodoxy and practice has involved many issues that affect the church as a whole: homosexuality, ordination, property ownership, and global leadership are among the bones of contention. Though there have been dissenters and splits since days of Thomas Cranmer and Henry VIII in the 1500s, the division widened when The Episcopal Church consecrated a non-celibate homosexual as bishop in 2003. Since then, global Anglican leaders have wrestled with questions of unity, ecclesiology, authority, and globalization.
