Some Baptist historians and theologians have argued that the essence of the Baptist witness and convictions can be traced back over the centuries directly to the New Testament church. This issue has not dealt with that argument. Church History Research and Archives has published many books long out of print dealing with Baptist history including those defending the line of argument mentioned above.
