Ecuadorian Martyrs Story on Stage

A new stage production touring the United States is retelling the story of how five missionaries lost their lives in the jungles of Ecuador 40 years ago (CT, Sept. 16, 1996, p. 20).

Dayuma began its 20-city tour September 19 to 21 in Tulsa with an international cast of 20. The show will conclude in March.

Dayuma was a young Huaorani (Auca) Indian girl who became a bridge for missionaries such as Elisabeth Elliot and Rachel Saint. They shared the gospel with the same people who had murdered their relatives. The production is based on Elliot’s 1957 book Through Gates of Splendor.

Dayuma is sponsored by Wycliffe Bible Translators, International Festival of the Arts, and Impact Productions. The widows of martyrs Nate Saint, Roger Youderian, and Ed McCully attended the premiere on September 20.
