North AmericaHarold Marshall Sylvester Richards Jr., 70, died of heart failure in Glendale, California, April 11. Richards followed his father as speaker of the Adventist Voice of Prophecy radio program, a position he held for 23 years.Gayle D. Beebe has been named president of Spring Arbor College in Michigan, effective July 1. Beebe has served as dean of the Haggard School of Theology at Azusa Pacific University since 1998.Daniel E. Weiss will retire as general secretary of American Baptist Churches USA in August. Weiss, 62, has served as general secretary since 1988.Freeman J. Dyson, professor emeritus at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey, has won the 2000 Templeton Prize for Progress in Religion. Dyson's body of work, which includes Weapons and Hope (Harper & Row, 1984), seeks to reconcile technology with social justice.One million copies of Patrick Morley'sThe Man in the Mirror will be distributed at no charge to men on Father's Day. The give-away ends a year-long campaign to encourage Christian men to tell their friends about their faith.Paul Rader, former international leader of the Salvation Army, has been appointed CEO of Asbury College. Rader will provide interim leadership after president David Gyertson assumes the presidency of Taylor University.
