Planned Parenthood is an odd assignment for a workplace chaplain

Workplace chaplains were on the rise before September 11, and have risen dramatically in prominence and number since then. At one of the largest organizations, Dallas-based Marketplace Ministries, requests have grown 50 percent since September. But few posts are stranger than the appointment a United Methodist bishop gave to Seattle’s Monica Corsaro. She’s now the first full-time, statewide chaplain for Planned Parenthood (though other chapters have volunteer chaplains). Corsaro, former head of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, told The Seattle Times she once wondered, “Why am I here with my political friends who can’t stand Christianity, and why are my Christian friends on the other side?” Maybe she should ask herself again.
