Sounds like: Club-ready modern R&B/hip-hop; compare to Lecrae, Usher, Group 1 Crew
Top tracks: "Favorite Song," "UnStoppable," "Eye on It"
For a man almost 48 years old, TobyMac never ceases to sound youthful and vibrant. And for his sixth solo effort, he has taken to mixing the body-shaking low end of dubstep in with his already well-heeled combination of modern R&B and hip-hop. Eye on It also features some of TobyMac's most boldly beautiful moments of his lengthy career in his string-soaked ode to "Family" and finding the "soothing melodies" in the voice of God. If there's any detriment to the album, it is that the singer and his collaborators are a little too enthusiastic about tossing every idea and interlude into these songs. But even without self-editing, the message and beats come out loud and clear, speaking to both body and soul.
