Sarah Young Defends ‘Jesus Calling’ to New York Times

Author explains how and why she channels Jesus in his own voice.

Christianity Today October 25, 2013

Not only has Sarah Young's Jesus Calling now grown popular enough to outsell 50 Shades of Grey. The 365 devotionals written from Jesus' point of view—having sold 9 million copies in 26 languages—is giving the previous gold standard of English-language daily devotionals, My Utmost for His Highest, a serious run for its money.

So CT noted in a recent lengthy profile of the reclusive author, her success and her critics, and how she might change how evangelicals think about prayer.

Today, Young explains to The New York Times's Mark Oppenheimer how she uses listening prayer to write her books:

"I agree that revelation has ceased in the sense that the Bible is complete," Young wrote. "However, what I am doing is devotional writing, and I do so by asking Jesus to guide my mind as I spend time with Him — to help me think His thoughts."

CT offers a special section on prayer as well as prayer and spirituality.
