Higher Education: Institutions Tap New Presidents

Theologian and author Richard J. Mouw will be installed November 8 as president of Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. Mouw, a professor of philosophy at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, for 17 years, has been provost and senior vice president at Fuller since 1989. He succeeds David Allan Hubbard, who had been Fuller president since 1963.

Other new appointments:

• David E. Schroeder is the new president of Nyack College in Nyack, New York. He previously has been director of higher education for the Christian and Missionary Alliance, the denomination with which Nyack is affiliated, and president of Philadelphia Theological Seminary. Schroeder replaces Rexford A. Boda, who will represent the college as president emeritus.

• Ronald R. Schmidt is the new president of the interdenominational Colorado Christian University in Lakewood. He previously had been executive vice president of Young Life Foundation. L. David Beckman, who had been president of the school, is now its chancellor.

• Barrie J. Palfreyman has been appointed to a four-year term as president of Canadian Baptist Seminary in Langley, British Columbia, by the Baptist General Conference of Canada.

• Robert E. Smith has been elected president of Greenville College, a Free Methodist school in Illinois. Smith had been vice president for institutional advancement at the college since 1977. He replaces the retiring W. Richard Stephens, president since 1977.

• William P. Robinson is the new president of Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington. Robinson was formerly the president of Manchester College in North Manchester, Indiana.
