The Bulletin

No Secrets for Old Men

Trump is indicted, the SBC elects a reformer, and Juneteenth offers hope for freedom then and now.

This week on The Bulletin, hosts Mike Cosper and Nicole Martin talk with attorney Matt Martens about how we can understand the rise of populism and the American vote as we look to upcoming elections. Digging deeper into the conservative evangelical psyche, Cosper and Martin discuss the SBC’s strong commitment to keep women out of the pulpit while voices argue for grace for predators. Martin poses convicting questions about the church’s future ministry to and for women. The episode ends in tribute to Juneteenth, a holiday that calls us all to hope in a freedom that is now and not yet, and to author Cormac McCarthy who died this week.

Joining us this week: Nicole Martin serves Christianity Today as chief impact officer after serving on its board of directors. Nicole oversees three major strategic initiatives that are shaping the future of CT including The Global Initiative, the Big Tent Initiative, and the Next Gen Initiative.

Matthew T. Martens (JD, University of North Carolina School of Law; MABS, Dallas Theological Seminary) is a trial lawyer and partner at an international law firm in Washington, DC.
