Editor’s Note from March 29, 1974

This issue offers three articles related to the Easter season. Roger Rusk (who is, incidentally, the brother of former secretary of state Dean Rusk) examines the chronology of Jesus’ death; Rachel King writes about the tearing of the curtain that separated the inner sanctuary from all but the high priest; and the second part of Edwin Yamauchi’s article on Jesus’ physical resurrection completes the triad.

Church discipline is virtually unheard of in our day. J. Robertson McQuilkin asks why this is so and then lays down the biblical principles governing discipline. He tells us who should be disciplined, why, and how. The weakness of many churches derives from their failure to discipline. It is a costly mistake not to act when action is called for. In a permissive age the churches can lead the way to a revitalization of ethical and moral standards by disciplining those who transgress. Judgment must begin in the house of God.
