Powerful Weakness

Here Am I Lord … Send Somebody Else uses Moses to discover God’s power in weakness.

Minister and well-known author and speaker Jill Briscoe uses the life of Moses as a framework for Christians to discover the power of God to work through weakness. As she retells the events of Moses’ story, Briscoe draws parallels to the Christian’s walk. In “Palace Training,” she examines how childhood and schooling shape one’s identity in preparation for God’s plan. Another chapter discusses the “plagues” God allows into our lives.

In “Rock of Ages,” she looks at recognizing our enemies, as the Israelites did. “What are you trying to ‘just say no’ to? Is it a habit to do with drink or drugs? Is it a temper that gets you into constant trouble?”

Briscoe mixes Scripture, personal anecdotes, and even fictional vignettes to make her points. The chapters read like a comfortable sermon series, full of enthusiasm (lots of exclamation marks). This book may appeal most to those new to faith looking for encouragement about the Christian life. Questions at the end of each chapter make it suitable for use as a basic Bible study.
