Comments on same-sex marriage, Syria, Twinkies, and the Republican defeat.

“I am pleased with the decision, because it creates yet another precedent in which a minister of the Presbyterian Church [u.s.a.] has not been sanctioned for officiating at the marriage ceremony of a same-sex couple.” Stephen Paschall, lawyer for Pittsburgh minister Janet Edwards. A church court dismissed charges against Edwards, because they had been filed four days after the statute of limitations expired.

“Does it seem ironic to you that people who distrust Syria are now believing Syrian press releases?” Rick Warren, calling official Syrian news agency reports about his trip to the country “ridiculous” and responding to conservatives who criticized his reported support of the Syrian government.

“They say you eat healthy and you live longer. But the Bible says the earth is not our home. So if you eat healthy, you’re not being faithful. I say have a Twinkie for Jesus.” Thor Ramsey, a Christian comedian on the Thou Shalt Laugh stand-up tour.

“By excusing the behavior of the Republican Party, Christian conservatives set the party up for the 2006 defeat.” Ken Connor, former president of the Family Research Council and now chairman of the Center for a Just Society.
