With writing, performance, or production credits for “Friends,” “CSI Miami,” “General Hospital,” Larry Norman, David Lee Roth, and Brian Wilson, the members of Jet Velvet clearly have an ear for hits and musicianship. Comprised of Paul Dexter (also of Mayfair Laundry fame) and Matt Bissonette, the Orange County duo’s self-titled debut is loaded with intelligently crafted, fun-in-the-sun ditties. Yet for every contagious chord and catchy harmony, there’s plenty of lyrical meat—the pain of a fractured relationship, the healing from mending fences, and comical reflections of growing up in the 1970s.
