Set It on Fire

Christianity Today July 6, 2010

Style: Radio-ready pop; compare to Jon McLaughlin, Mark Schultz, David Cook

Top tracks: “Set It on Fire,” “Pictures of the People I Love,” “Time of My Life”

Best known as a songwriter for other artists, Regie Hamm’s credits include “American Idol” alum David Cook, CCM veteran Clay Crosse, and southern gospel’s Gaither Vocal Band. After more than a decade and a half behind the scenes, Hamm makes his solo debut with an instantly engaging piano pop repertoire destined for Christian radio. Though sometimes overly commercial and a little 1990s leaning at times, Hamm’s lyrics are his greatest asset, ranging from the roller coaster of his musical dreams, to adopting a girl with severe medical problems (and that situation’s stresses), followed by unconditional surrender.
