Style: Organic, humble worship; compare to Josh White, Rend Collective Experiment
Top tracks: “Brokenness Aside,” “All the Poor and Powerless,”
David Leonard (formerly of Jackson Waters, Needtobreathe) and Leslie Jordan began collaborating as worship leaders at Journey, their church in Franklin, Tenn. This strong introductory EP blends a striking vocal chemistry, organic sensibility and reverent humility. The album’s six songs shine brightest in confessional verses, such as “Will your grace run out if I let you down? ‘Cause all I know is how to run” (“Brokenness Aside”). But several choruses grow repetitive or rely too heavily on hallelujahs or other well-worn worship phrases. Still, this is an intimate, reflective addition to the worship genre.
