Today’s Briefing

Humanitarian aid has been caught in a diplomatic standoff, leaving a Honduran ministry unable to retrieve a shipment of 700 water filters 10 miles away.

Six months after Hurricane Helene devastated parts of Appalachia, church volunteers are still sorting through the “second disaster” of donated clothes.

The story of Forever 21, which filed for bankruptcy last week, is also a story of Korean American Christians.

As Americans and as Christians, we ought to care about lawful ends as well as lawful means.

The Bulletin considers what COVID-19 left behind.

Behind the Story

From podcast producer Leslie Thompson: Sometimes you need to find the perfect person to help you tell a story. When the team at The Bulletin started conceptualizing a five-year retrospective on COVID-19, we started by reaching out to listeners with a mid-roll ad. That’s where we found Michael Moody.

Michael served as support for the Air Force reserve medical personnel who were called to action in New York City. He saw the empty streets in New York and the refrigerator trucks filled with bodies. When he went back home and told people what he’d witnessed, he was met with deep skepticism. His experience was painful but also brought him back to grounded faith in God.

It was deeply meaningful for me to hear this story and helpful to reflect on this one person’s experience to help process the loss and trauma we all went through.

in the magazine

Even amid scandals, cultural shifts, and declining institutional trust, we at Christianity Today recognize the beauty of Christ’s church. In this issue, you’ll read of the various biblical metaphors for the church, and of the faithfulness of Japanese pastors. You’ll hear how one British podcaster is rethinking apologetics, and Collin Hansen’s hope for evangelical institutions two years after Tim Keller’s death. You’ll be reminded of the power of the Resurrection, and how the church is both more fragile and much stronger than we think from editor in chief Russell Moore. This Lent and Easter season, may you take great courage in Jesus’ words in Matthew 16:18—“I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”
