Demands for “reparations” from white churches continued during July despite disclosure that the federal government is investigating the National Black Economic Development Conference. The group whose chief spokesman is black militant James Forman got its first direct donation from a predominantly white institution when $15,000 was withdrawn from a Greenwich Village Methodist church’s savings account and presented to a NBEDC steering committee member. The minister of the church was not on hand for the presentation, although he was reported to have favored the gift.
