Maybe It’s Mockery

Actor on new WB comedy doesn’t feel his character makes Christianity the joke

“Can we just have one minute where we don’t talk about the Lord?” Molly Stage asks her brother, Grant. “That’s Satan talking,” he replies. Welcome to Maybe It’s Me, which is earning reviews as the funniest new comedy of the fall television season (Fridays, WB). Though Grant’s sincerity is the butt of jokes, actor Patrick Levis doesn’t think it mocks Christianity. “What a great opportunity for people to see that Christians are not these too-out-there weirdoes,” he told entertainment site Zap2it.com. At least he hopes people aren’t laughing too hard at his character: Like Grant, Levis wants to be in a Christian band. Typecast? Maybe it’s him: Levis’s last role was Donny Osmond in the made-for-tv movie Inside the Osmonds.
