PhotographyWatch

Christianity Today’s design director lists his favorite photography sites.

Photo.net Photo.net is the best online community for photographers, where you can learn about and discuss all aspects of the medium. Forums here range from equipment to technique to image critique. A great combination of education, art, craft, and community.

Mediastorm Exploring new possibilities in photographic storytelling in the digital age, MediaStorm was begun by Brian Storm (formerly of msnbc and Corbis). See and hear various projects, such as Paul Fusco’s “Chernobyl Legacy,” and experience the power of combining still images, video, voice, and music in compact presentations.

Michael Kenna Photography Michael Kenna’s stark, serene, and mysterious black-and-white photographs of the natural landscape have been a continual source of inspiration for me. As a young man, Kenna attended seminary to become a priest. Although his journey ultimately led him to record the world as he sees it with his camera, the sense of the divine remains in his work.

Magnum Photos Founded just after World War II by Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Capa, Magnum is an agency that still represents some of the world’s finest documentary photographers. Its rich archive of imagery from world events stretching back to the Spanish Civil War provides a fascinating visual experience.

Genesis Photo Agency Founded by award-winning photographer Gary Fong, former director of photography at the San Francisco Chronicle and current president of Christians in Photojournalism, the agency’s goal is “elevating the effectiveness of photography in evangelical publications around the world.” To this end, Fong has organized a group of highly talented photographers available for assignments worldwide.
