President of Youth Specialties fired, Shane Hipps hired by Mars Hill, and other transitions in the Christian world.

Fired • Mark Oestreicher, as president of Youth Specialties (YS) since 2002. YS owner Zondervan said it was shifting the direction of its events business.

Resigned • Catherine Rohr, as founder and CEO of the Prison Entrepreneurship Program, on October 13 after revealing “inappropriately close relationships” with parolees who had graduated from the program.

Hired • Shane Hipps, as a teaching pastor at Mars Hill Bible Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Rob Bell will remain pastor of Mars Hill. Hipps, author of several books on technology and spirituality, was formerly pastor of Trinity Mennonite Church in Glendale, Arizona.

Appointed • Bill Mounce, as New Testament committee chair of the English Standard Version Bible, to the team retranslating the New International Version. The revised NIV is slated for a 2011 release.

Died • John Wild, British surgeon who pioneered ultrasound imaging, on September 18. He was 95.
