Style: Indie folk; compare to David Bazan, Damien Jurado and Elliott Smith
Top tracks: “Fragments,” “Red River,” “Instrument”
Singer-songwriter Votolato recalls the acoustic sentiments of Elliott Smith or Ryan Adams (minus the cynicism). The album heralds Votolato’s victory over depression. After years of being consumed with existentialism, physics, and theology, he’s now singing, “Please make me your instrument / with eyes inside out I’ll never doubt this / The fruit will show where the root is planted / I just want to come back home to you again.” Votolato has given up fighting existential wars, and has crafted a delicate indie-folk record about making peace with your self.
