Singer/songwriter Matt Krueger was adopted at birth, and his adoptive parents knew little of his family’s medical history. So he was stunned when, at just 27 years old, he was diagnosed with sky-high cholesterol and blocked arteries, leading to major heart surgery. Now fully recovered, the married father of four is singing about adoption, his health scare, and a strengthened faith, framed around acoustic instrumentation nestled in porch pop production. Krueger’s singing is an acquired taste, but his compelling narratives make up for his vocal limitations.
